On Sunday, the Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi has called on Sharjah Ruler Sultan bin Mohammad Al-Qasimi and held a “cordial discussion” with him on the range of issues to strengthen the bilateral ties between the nations.

Mr. Gandhi was in UAE on a two-day maiden visit to Abu Dhabi and Dubai during which he will meet the country’s top leadership and also address the Indian community besides meeting with the students and business leaders.

The Congress Chief will meet the Sharjah Ruler before he comes back to India.

Mr. Gandhi said in a tweet, “It was a pleasure to meet with Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, the ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah. We had a cordial discussion that covered a range of issues. I look forward to working with him to strengthen the bonds between our countries.”

He said in another Twitter post, “I am humbled by the love of the Indian community here in the UAE & their infectious enthusiasm & energy that helped make our visit a big success. I want to thank all the volunteers from the Congress Party, IUML, KMCC & local organizations for their hard work. I salute you all!”

On Friday, Mr. Gandhi had an “excellent meeting” with Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during which he has assured that the Dubai ruler that he continued to form stronger bilateral ties.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi has addressed Indian workers and interacted with the business leader. He further interacted with representatives of IBPC (Indian Business and Professional Council) in Dubai and met the Punjabi community as well.
