Sharjah has introduced its monument named Sharjah World Book Capital 2019, developed by Shurooq. It has been made of 72 tonnes of steel with 240 tonnes of concrete foundations with a 4-meter wide base. It is shaped like a torch aimed to emphasize on reading books and stressing the important role of books.

It commemorates Sharjah’s landmark cultural achievement as the first city in the Gulf Region and the third city in the Arab World. The Ruler of Sharjah has unveiled the ‘House of Wisdom’ project, which is being developed by Shurooq in celebration of Sharjah World Book Capital 2019.  This iconic library will be a cultural center for all the people where they will get numerous kinds of books and knowledge. Furthermore, there will be indoor and outdoor parking areas to accommodate up to 120 cars.

It has been designed by award-winning British architectural design and engineering firm Foster and Partners. The House of Wisdom is situated near the University City of Sharjah over 12,000 square meters.

The building has two floors comprising a 105,000-book library. The building has discussion halls, reading areas – both indoors and outdoors in the garden. A restaurant, a café, an attractive children’s education place, a prayer room, and a dedicated women’s area will also be available there.

People from all religion and age will get a great chance to explore new knowledge in the House of Wisdom. The move is aimed to encourage visitors to continue reading at home. People will also be offered a specialized digital application to facilitate navigation through books, options, and services.
