Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology’s (ESMA) has set a new step to reduce power consumption. All the television sets which will enter the UAE will immediately have to be fixed with the new energy efficiency standards by ESMA to reduce overall power consumption of the TV sets up to 50 percent.
The TV Efficiency Project has been approved by the UAE Cabinet after being rolled out as a part of ESMA’s eighth national energy efficiency programme. It has been confirmed by the ESMA’s Director General that the issuance of federal legislation in this regard to ensure the implementation is mandatory. Based on the study of several regional and international legislation and regulations, the report was prepared.
“This will reduce the value of Government financial support by up to Dh73 million and contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 225,000 cubic meters or equivalent of the planting of 150,000 trees,” said Al Muaini.
The purpose of the legislation is to reduce the annual consumption of electricity in the UAE. The country will allow only 4-5 starred products he added.
