Dubai: In Dubai this weekend, A three-day festival celebrating the ancient and highly structured classical performing arts from the south Indian state of Kerala.

From November 30 to December 2, showcasing the native art forms of Kerala, the 12th edition of ‘ Utsavam 2018’- International Kathakali and Koodiyattam Festival (IKKF) will be staged, under the aegis of the Consulate General Of India in Dubai, said Organizers in a press conference.

Entry is free as the event is held at Princess Haya Bint AI Hussein Theatre, Gems Wellington High School, Shaikh Zayed Road.

Koodiyattam is also known as Kutiyattam, as it is 2000-year-old theater form recognized by Unesco as a masterpiece of the Oral and intangible heritage of humanity.

In scale and magnificence, the festival has grown over the years. Kathakali is the most unique dance form that demonstrates its dramatic makeup, elaborate costumes, and detailed gestures.

Artists like Padmabhushan Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair and Padmasree Kalamandalam Gopi have graced the festival with their performance in the past.

The Kathakali acts chosen to explore the grace of golden age from 17th to early 19th century. Each of these plays a very distinct, emphasizing, a different sensibility of Kathakali said the Organizers.
