On Thursday, a school bus caught fire just a few munites after the driver left the bus, said the police. An official at Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence told the reporters that the police operations room received a call at 2.30 pm about the fire. The school is Al Najah school, located in Adhan area in Ras Al Khaimah.
The driver was lucky enough that he escaped just munites after the vehicles burst into flames.
The school bus was parked outside the school when the incident happened, said the official. To extinguish the blaze, firefighters from Al Gail reached there. A police patrol was at the scene and moved all the other buses away. In the incident, half of the bus was gutted. “The cause of the fire is not yet known. The case was handed over to the forensic laboratory to determine how the fire started,” he said.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education said that school bus caught fire after it collided with a school boundary wall. Luckily, there were no students on the bus as the incident happened after school hours.
The motorists were urged by the RAK Civil DEfence to carry a fire extinguisher in their vehicles and regularly check to reduce the risk of fire.
