On Sunday morning, thirty-five rare falcon chicks worth Dh1.1 million died because of heavy lightning in Madinat Zayed. The barn, in which they were housed was struck by lightning.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the western region had witnessed heavy lightning with medium to heavy rainfall as well as a strong rush of wind 60 km/h in Al Gharbia.

The barn is situated in one of the most affected areas by the freak storm. Falconry is the main reason behind housing these rare falcon chicks.

The NCM suggested all the residents not to go outside unnecessarily because of the rough weather. The motorists were also advised to stay careful while driving on the highways. As per reports, the waves in the sea were recorded 10-12 feet height.

Over the last few weeks, UAE has been experiencing stormy weather with rain and hail. Early morning on Sunday, hail showered several parts of Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Abu Dhabi International Airport also experienced light rain. The lowest temperature recorded in the UAE was 11 degrees Celsius in Jebel Jais yesterday.
